The Roots of Religion lie deep in the mind Some of it's cruel and some of it's kind Some of it's good and some of it's bad Some of it's joyful and some of it's sad
The Roots of Religion lie deep in the past Many Ages ago when first it was cast From paintings in caves and stone pillars raised high And searching for signs from the lights in the sky
Shamen and Priests and Wise Men of Old Amongst these The Secrets were whispered and told Magicians and Sorcerers were there as well With Enchantments and Omens and many a Spell
They worshipped The Earth, The Sun and The Moon The Stars in The Heavens were charted quite soon The Great Cosmic Order was looked on with awe And they honoured and worshipped the marvels they saw
They worshipped The Spirits and they worshipped The Dead (And even some men who were strange in the head) Great Towers and Pyramids went soaring above Some worshipped The Hawk and some worshipped The Dove
Dances were danced and potions imbibed Orders were given to be circumcised But people were burnt and curses were screamed Philosophers pondered and The Dreamers they dreamed
In search of Great Truths - Great Prices were paid With great pain and suffering were sacrifices made Great Gods were granted their Great Powers on High And their Chariots of Fire raced by in The Sky
In pursuit of Salvation, The Truth and The Right Many wars have been fought - Many homes set alight So many have perished when never they should The Great Cross of Religion is dripping with blood
And so many religions have come and gone And many religions will go on and on But if there is ONE THING to keep in your mind
IT'S... 'TRY TO BE HUMAN AND TRY TO BE KIND'
